DAY 1: ARRIVAL IN NAIROBI – CITY TOUR & CULTURAL WELCOME
Upon arrival in Nairobi, you’ll be welcomed by your Twende Tours representative and transferred to your hotel. After check-in and refreshment, embark on a guided city tour exploring Nairobi’s cultural and wildlife gems. Visit the Giraffe Centre, where you’ll get the chance to feed endangered Rothschild giraffes and learn about their conservation. Then proceed to the David Sheldrick Elephant Orphanage to see rescued baby elephants and hear their stories of survival. Next, explore the Nairobi National Museum to understand Kenya’s diverse heritage. If time allows, pass by the KICC rooftop for sweeping city views. In the evening, enjoy an optional traditional Kenyan dinner at Carnivore or experience a Maasai cultural show at Bomas of Kenya.
DAY 2: NAIROBI – DRIVE TO AMBOSELI NATIONAL PARK (MT. KILIMANJARO VIEWS)
Depart Nairobi in the morning and head south toward Amboseli National Park, arriving around midday. After lunch at your lodge or camp, settle in and enjoy the views of Mount Kilimanjaro—Africa’s tallest peak. In the afternoon, head out for your first game drive across the vast open plains of Amboseli. Expect to see large elephant herds, giraffes, zebras, wildebeests, and predators like lions and hyenas. Return to the lodge as the sun sets behind Kilimanjaro—perfect for photography. In the evening, unwind with storytelling and refreshments at camp.
DAY 3: FULL-DAY ADVENTURE IN AMBOSELI NATIONAL PARK
Begin your day early with a sunrise game drive, when the wildlife is most active and Kilimanjaro is often crystal clear. Amboseli is famous for its elephant families, as well as excellent sightings of cheetahs, buffaloes, gazelles, and over 400 bird species. Visit Observation Hill, which provides a panoramic view of the park and its swamp systems where elephants and hippos bathe. After breakfast, spend mid-day hours relaxing or exploring the Maasai community (optional). In the afternoon, set out on a second game drive, focusing on areas you may have missed. Return to the lodge for dinner and relaxation under the stars.
DAY 4: AMBOSELI – DRIVE TO LAKE NAIVASHA VIA RIFT VALLEY ESCARPMENT
After breakfast, begin your drive north through scenic Rift Valley landscapes, stopping at viewpoints for photography. Arrive in Lake Naivasha, a freshwater lake surrounded by lush gardens and volcanic hills. After check-in and lunch, enjoy a boat ride on the lake, spotting hippos, fish eagles, and other water birds. In the late afternoon, visit Crescent Island, a private sanctuary where you can walk among zebras, giraffes, and impalas—no predators! Spend your evening relaxing by the lakeshore, enjoying the tranquil ambiance.
DAY 5: NAIVASHA – EXPLORE HELL’S GATE & LEISURE TIME
After breakfast, head to Hell’s Gate National Park, famous for its dramatic gorges, towering cliffs, and geothermal activity. You can bike or hike through the park, getting up close to zebras, buffalos, and warthogs in a predator-free environment. Visit Fischer’s Tower and the Geothermal Spa. After the adventure, enjoy a picnic lunch or return to your lodge. Spend the afternoon at leisure, perhaps indulging in a spa treatment, bird watching, or relaxing in the garden. Optional visit to Elsamere Conservation Centre, former home of Joy Adamson of Born Free fame.
DAY 6: NAIVASHA – DRIVE TO LAKE NAKURU NATIONAL PARK
After breakfast, travel to Lake Nakuru, known for its rhinos and flamingos. Arrive in time for lunch, followed by an afternoon game drive. The park is home to both black and white rhinos, leopards, lions, and thousands of flamingos lining the lakeshore. Drive up to Baboon Cliff for panoramic views. The diverse habitats—woodlands, grasslands, rocky cliffs—make this one of the best parks for spotting a variety of wildlife. After the game drive, unwind at your lodge or enjoy birdwatching by the lake.
DAY 7: LAKE NAKURU – DRIVE TO MAASAI MARA NATIONAL RESERVE
Depart after breakfast and head toward the Maasai Mara, Kenya’s premier game reserve. Enjoy the changing scenery—from green hills to acacia-dotted plains. Arrive at your lodge/camp for lunch, then set out for a sunset game drive. The Mara is home to the Big Five, plus cheetahs, hyenas, jackals, and vast herds of grazers. The open terrain makes for spectacular viewing. In the evening, relax at your lodge or participate in a campfire chat with your guide about the day’s sightings.
DAY 8: SUNRISE GAME DRIVE – RETURN TO NAIROBI
Start your last day with an early morning game drive—a perfect time to spot predators on the move and enjoy the golden light. Afterwards, return to camp for breakfast, check out, and begin your journey back to Nairobi, stopping along the Great Rift Valley for photos and local crafts. Arrive in the city in the afternoon for drop-off at your hotel or airport, marking the end of your unforgettable Kenya Horizons adventure.
