DAY 1: FLY FROM NAIROBI TO SAMBURU – WELCOME TO THE WILD NORTH
Your Samburu adventure begins with a transfer from your Nairobi hotel to Wilson Airport. Board your scheduled flight for a scenic journey over the Great Rift Valley and Central Highlands to the semi-arid wonderland of Samburu National Reserve.
Upon arrival, a warm Twende Tours guide will greet you at the airstrip and drive you to your lodge with a mini game drive along the way. Samburu is famous for rare species found only in the north — Grevy’s zebra, reticulated giraffe, Beisa oryx, Somali ostrich, and gerenuk.
After check-in and lunch, enjoy an afternoon game drive, followed by a relaxing evening and dinner at the lodge, surrounded by the tranquil sights and sounds of Samburu’s rugged landscape.
DAY 2: GAME VIEWING AND CULTURAL VISIT
Begin your day with a morning game drive to explore the reserve’s Ewaso Nyiro River, the lifeline of the ecosystem, where elephants, lions, and leopards gather to drink and hunt.
Return to camp for a hearty breakfast, then relax by the pool or take in views from your veranda.
In the afternoon, you’ll visit a traditional Samburu village, learning about the customs, attire, and way of life of these semi-nomadic people. Their vibrant red attire and rituals closely resemble their Maasai cousins, but with their own distinct cultural identity.
Wrap up the day with another game drive before returning to your lodge for dinner and storytelling under the stars.
DAY 3: FULL-DAY SAFARI IN SAMBURU
This day is all about immersive safari experiences. You’ll set off for a full-day game drive with a bush picnic lunch, venturing deeper into the reserve to look for Samburu’s Special Five and predators such as lion, cheetah, and hyena.
Enjoy the freedom to explore at a relaxed pace, stopping at waterholes and open plains. Your knowledgeable guide will interpret the landscape and animal behavior throughout the drive.
Return to camp in the late afternoon and wind down with a refreshing drink and dinner overlooking the Ewaso Nyiro River.
DAY 4: SUNRISE SAFARI & RETURN TO NAIROBI
After early morning tea or coffee, enjoy one last sunrise game drive, capturing final moments of wildlife and nature photography.
Return to camp for breakfast, followed by a transfer to the airstrip. Your return flight takes you over stunning northern Kenya landscapes, landing in Nairobi around midday.
A Twende Tours driver will be waiting to transfer you to your hotel or the international airport.
