DAY 1: NAIROBI TO MOSHI – WELCOME TO KILIMANJARO
Your journey kicks off with a scenic drive from Nairobi heading south toward the Tanzanian border at Namanga. After a smooth immigration process, you’ll proceed to Moshi, a picturesque town nestled in the foothills of Mt. Kilimanjaro. As you approach Moshi, the towering snow-capped peak of Kilimanjaro comes into view, offering your first glimpse of Africa’s tallest mountain. Upon arrival, check into your lodge where you’ll be welcomed with refreshments and local hospitality. The rest of the day is free to relax, take a walk through the town or explore the local markets. In the evening, enjoy a warm dinner as you acclimatize and prepare for the adventures ahead.
DAY 2: MARANGU GATE & CHAGGA CULTURAL EXPERIENCE
After breakfast, set off on a short drive to Marangu Gate, one of the main entry points to Kilimanjaro National Park. This area sits at 1,860 meters above sea level and is lush with rainforest. With a local guide, take a short forest hike along part of the Marangu trail, known as the “Coca-Cola Route.” You’ll learn about endemic plant species, birdlife, and possibly spot colobus monkeys.
Afterwards, visit the Ndoro Waterfalls, one of the most spectacular falls on the slopes of Kilimanjaro. The trail winds through vibrant green landscapes and banana plantations. Later in the day, immerse yourself in the Chagga people’s culture by visiting a traditional homestead. Here, you’ll enjoy a live demonstration of banana beer brewing and sample a traditional Chagga meal prepared over firewood.
DAY 3: SHIRA PLATEAU TREK – TOUCH THE HIGHLANDS
Start your day with an early breakfast and a packed lunch as you head for the Shira Plateau, located on the western side of Kilimanjaro National Park. At an altitude of over 3,500 meters, the Shira Plateau is a UNESCO World Heritage site and one of Kilimanjaro’s most scenic areas. Your guided nature walk across the moorland landscape provides magnificent views of the summit and a chance to spot high-altitude flora and fauna. The terrain here is dramatic and wide open — ideal for stunning photography and enjoying the raw wilderness.
After several hours of hiking, rest and enjoy your packed lunch on the plateau. Descend back to Moshi in the afternoon for dinner and relaxation.
DAY 4: LAKE CHALA CRATER EXPERIENCE – SERENITY BY THE WATER
After breakfast, set off for Lake Chala, a tranquil crater lake nestled between Kenya and Tanzania. Surrounded by lush forest and steep crater walls, this lake is a serene escape and a lesser-known gem. Spend the day hiking the crater rim for panoramic views, swimming in the turquoise waters, or kayaking (optional). You’ll enjoy a relaxing picnic lunch with incredible vistas of the lake and the distant outline of Kilimanjaro.
Bird enthusiasts can spot species such as African fish eagles and sunbirds, while others may enjoy spotting small mammals along the trails. The peacefulness of this place makes it ideal for reflection and rejuvenation before returning to your lodge in Moshi.
DAY 5: MATERUNI WATERFALLS & COFFEE EXPERIENCE – LOCAL FLAVORS
Today, travel to Materuni Village, one of the last villages before Kilimanjaro National Park. Begin with a guided hike through forest and farmland to reach the Materuni Waterfalls, plunging over 90 meters from a lush cliffside. The hike is moderate and offers rich insights into the local vegetation, with a chance to see native trees, birds, and medicinal plants.
Afterwards, enjoy an interactive coffee-making tour led by a local farmer. You’ll participate in the full process — from harvesting beans to roasting, grinding, and finally tasting a cup of freshly brewed Chagga coffee. Enjoy a traditional Chagga lunch with banana stew, local vegetables, and fruit. Return to Moshi for a relaxing final evening.
DAY 6: DEPARTURE – FAREWELL TO KILIMANJARO
On your final day, enjoy a leisurely breakfast at your lodge. Depending on your schedule, you may have time for some last-minute souvenir shopping or a visit to the local Maasai market. You will then be transferred either to Nairobi, Arusha, or Kilimanjaro International Airport (JRO) for your departure. Along the way, reminisce on the stunning views, rich culture, and mountain air you’ve experienced over the past six days.ice
